Bringing your own 3D models into Twinnoverse is the first step in creating a personalized digital twin. This guide covers how to prepare your models for optimal performance and how to upload them through the dashboard.
Before You Upload: Preparing Your Model #
A well-optimized model is crucial for a smooth, real-time experience. Before uploading, ensure your model adheres to the following principles.
1. Use the Correct File Format: .glb #
As detailed in our Supported 3D Formats & Best Practices guide, Twinnoverse currently requires the .glb format. This format is efficient and self-contained, meaning it bundles all necessary textures and data into a single file, which simplifies the upload process.
2. Optimize Your Geometry and Textures #
Performance is key. A model with too many polygons or overly large textures will slow down the application for you and anyone else viewing the scene.
- Keep Polygon Counts Low: Use techniques like normal maps to simulate detail on low-polygon surfaces.
- Optimize Textures: Use power-of-two dimensions (e.g., 1024×1024) and keep resolutions as low as possible without sacrificing visual quality.
For a complete checklist on optimization, please review the Best Practices for Real-Time 3D Asset Optimization.
The Upload Process #
Uploading is handled directly from the Twinnoverse Dashboard.
- Navigate to the Assets Tab: From the main dashboard, select the “Assets” tab from the navigation menu. This will display your asset library.
- Initiate the Upload: Click on the “Upload New Asset” button. This will open the upload dialog window.
- Select Your Model:
- Click the “Select File” button.
- A file browser will open. Navigate to and select the
.glbfile you prepared.
- Name Your Asset:
- In the “Asset Name” input field, provide a clear and descriptive name for your asset. This is the name that will appear in your library.
- Confirm and Upload:
- Click the “Confirm Upload” button.
- The system will now upload your file to secure cloud storage and create an entry for it in the database.
What Happens Next? #
After the upload is complete, you will be returned to your asset library, where you will see your new asset listed. The system will automatically attempt to generate a thumbnail for it.
From here, your asset is ready to be configured. Find your new asset in the list and click on it to open the Asset Editor, where you can add data widgets and bring your digital twin to life.
