Goal #
Create a TV dashboard in Twinnoverse, connect its data, add it to a playlist, assign it to a device, and show it on a TV screen.
What This Guide Helps You Do #
Use this guide when you want to create a TV dashboard for operations, production, KPI reporting, or internal business display screens.
By the end of this setup, you will have:
- a claimed TV device connected to Twinnoverse
- a data source that feeds the dashboard
- a layout that defines the dashboard design
- a playlist that controls playback on the screen
- a live TV dashboard showing on the device
How the Whole Flow Works #
Before you go step by step, it helps to understand the full Twinnoverse setup model.
To show a live dashboard on a TV, you usually need these parts:
- a device, the physical TV or screen running the Twinnoverse Reader app
- a data source, tells Twinnoverse where the runtime data will come from
- a layout, defines what the screen looks like
- widget labels inside the layout, so the incoming data can map to the correct widgets
- a playlist, tells the device what layout to play and for how long
In simple terms:
- claim the screen so Twinnoverse can control it
- create the data source so the dashboard has data
- build the layout so the data has a visual design
- bind the data source to the layout
- add the layout to a playlist
- assign the playlist to the device
- let the TV load and display the dashboard
You can think of the flow like this:
- device = the physical screen
- data source = the runtime data feed
- layout = the visual design
- playlist = the playback plan
Before You Start Your TV Dashboard Setup #
- you can access the admin portal
- you have a device ready to claim or edit
- you know whether your data will use REST, WebSocket, Ingest, or Manual
Step 1: Create the Data Source for the TV Dashboard #
- Open Data Sources.
- Create a new data source.
- Choose one type:
- REST API for polling an endpoint
- WebSocket for pushed updates
- Ingest for a local gateway that sends data to Twinnoverse
- Manual when operators will enter the runtime values themselves
- Save the data source.
If you choose Manual, continue with Build a Manual KPI Dashboard.
Step 2: Create the TV Dashboard Layout #
- Open Layouts.
- Create a new layout.
- Design for a 16:9 landscape screen.
- Decide what each part of the screen should communicate.
- Choose the widget families that fit that message.
- Add the widgets to the layout.
- Give each data-driven widget a clear label.
- Save the layout.
Before choosing the widgets, read:
Step 3: Bind the Data Source to the Layout #
- In the Layout Editor, deselect all widgets.
- In the layout-level inspector, choose the data source.
- Save the layout again.
Step 4: Create the Playlist for the TV Dashboard #
- Open Playlists.
- Create a new playlist.
- Add the layout.
- Set the layout duration.
- Save the playlist.
A playlist is the device’s normal playback plan. It controls:
- which layouts play
- the order they play in
- how long each layout stays on screen
If you need the full explanation before continuing, read Playlists.
Step 5: Assign the Playlist to the TV Device #
- Open Devices.
- Create a device or edit an existing one.
- Assign the playlist.
- Save the device.
Step 6: Claim the TV Device #
- Open the device on the TV.
- Enter the claim code shown in the admin portal.
- Wait for the device to connect.
Step 7: Verify the TV Dashboard Is Live #
Confirm all of the following:
- the device is online
- the playlist is assigned
- the layout appears on screen
- the widgets receive data
Final Checklist #
- widget labels match the incoming payload
- the layout has one correct data source
- the playlist contains the expected layout
- the device is assigned to the correct playlist
If all of those are correct, your TV dashboard setup is complete.
